What Happened?
In the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Soviet Union (also known as Russia) was planning to cause a nuclear war. That was brought up by an American Spy plane U-2, who was secretly taking pictures of the making of these missiles. Once President Kennedy found out he did what he could do, by talking to the Cuban and Soviet Union leaders. It was not until October 22, 1962 when President Kennedy told the public over a televised show. Many people were shocked while others thought that it was the end of there lives.
If Cuba was to fire those missiles, it would have killed about 80 million people in the U.S and would have destroyed over 100,000 miles of land. But thank goodness for JFK for talking to the leaders and allowing them to compromise. It took 13-14 days to finish this crisis. They made a movie about this ! We will show you the trailer later. Below, there is a picture of were the missiles were.
The leaders of the crisis were Nikita Khrushchev and Fidel Castro. They both disliked the United States and what they had to offer. Nikita Khrushchev is from the Soviet Union, also known as Russia. And Fidel Castro is from Puerto Rico, traveling to Cuba. Those two partnered up to "whip out" the united states.
